The concept of having an RV or a boat is something that was deemed as a luxury for many people around the world. Not everyone could afford one, and if they did, it would be paid in installments for those lucky few who wanted a bit of extra time out driving into the wilderness and sleeping under the stars.
Fast forward to the 21st Century and these mobile homes and water transportation options are everywhere and owned by lots more people. To some, having an RV is their home. Some adventurous folk like the idea of being able to park it at a caravan park for a few days and enjoy the freedom of not having to worry about household bills or cleaning a big house.
It offers a lot of things and this article discusses a few good offerings that both RVs and Boats have for their owners.
What an RV Can offer That A House Can’t
Freedom of Location Choice: As mentioned above, one of the things it can provide is the freedom of choosing where to stay without having to buy the property, because you already own property on wheels. The popular research and statistics website ‘Statista’ have noted that by 2018 the number of owners for RVs had gone up in America, from 5% to over 6.1% amongst those aged 18-29 years. Here’s more about that.
Extra Holiday Options: This leads us to our next offering. Having the option of parking anywhere, where it is legal, expands your holiday options because now you can have a beach holiday or a lake holiday and even a desert holiday if that’s your thing. You don’t need to book in advance and deal with extra unnecessary expenses of a bed and breakfast or a luxury holiday with the kids. Instead, all you do is book the ground you’re going to park on, and voila!
Smaller Cleaning Space. Let’s face it, not everyone has the time to or enjoys cleaning their homes unless you’re a neat freak or a germaphobe, in which case this is the number one priority for you. In any case, having a small space to clean is a good offering when considering an RV, because you can walk a couple of steps to and from to clean it, and it stays clean because there’s not much to make a mess with or separate rooms to go through.
What a Boat Can offer That an RV Can’t
Walk on Water: Then there are the options of boats from fishing boats, catamaran boats, dingy boats, center console boats, luxury boats, jet boats, you name it: https://www.marineinsight.com/types-of-ships/a-guide-to-different-types-of-boats/ and there a type for everyone. However, the one thing it can propose that the RV’s or houses cannot is the ability to go on the water and enjoy the natural oceans and water bodies that earth has to offer.
While you can’t walk on water, your boat can, and this is as marvelous as winning the lottery! Who wouldn’t love to sail at sea on a crisp morning with the clear blue skies smiling down on you and the sun just beginning to show its face? It’s a postcard picture.
Easy to Store: boats are possible much easier to maintain and store, than an RV or a House. Of course, you don’t need to store a house, but you do need to maintain it, and no matter how small your place is, even if it is a studio apartment, you still need to pay heed to the maintenance of equipment in the kitchen, bathroom, centrally and more.
With a boat it’s pretty straight-forward, it only has so many parts and they are all under one hood, much like a car. The additional offering of having one is that it can be stored in specific spaces meant for them, which most often you will find parking or storage units Campbell river for your water vehicle with ease, and the permits usually last for years.
Finding storage for your boat is not difficult if you’ve got a permit, and the right spot. Most often, boat etiquette, demands you don’t dock it in another person’s spot, unlike car etiquette. Finding the right spot is as easy as 1-2-3, you apply for the permit, you receive and space is dedicated to your boat. You can come and go as you please.
In some countries, you don’t even need a permit or a license. In Canada however, by law, a boat owner needs to acquire a PCOC (Pleasure Craft Operators Card), when you operate any vehicle on water.
Time in Solitude: In this day in age while we are surrounded by the already fast and busy life of a city center, not to mention the additional stress of having to deal with a global pandemic such as COVID-19, sometimes you just need a place to go to, that’s away from everything and everyone, and possibly in the middle of nowhere.
This can only be made possible either by an RV or a boat. Having a boat and drifting off to the middle of the ocean or just a couple of meters away from the shoreline, by yourself, and spending the day in peace, is a one in a million opportunity for many. More so now than ever, with the COVID-19 rule of keeping yourself socially distanced, as mentioned on this website, this would be the perfect solution. Perhaps build a small ‘home office’ on your boat, while you’re at it.
Happy sailing!
